As a first time home buyer looking to purchase a home, once you figured out how much home you can afford your next step will be to make a list of the features you would like in your home. In order to determine this, make sure you ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What will your family requirements be in the medium term?

  2. Do you want to do yard work or would you prefer a condominium style property?

  3. How many bathrooms do you require?

  4. Are you handy enough to finish your own recreation room or would you prefer purchasing one that is pre-finished?

These are just a few of the many options that you should consider. However, remember the three most important factors in real estate are: location, location, location. Consider your proposed type of home carefully since it will probably serve you a good many years.

Next in this series of tips aimed at helping first time home buyers I will look at Step #3 and # 4- Talk to your real estate agent.
